婚後不久，米契爾夫妻轉往美國的底特律發展，受到了當地民歌界的重視。民歌手湯姆魯許（Tom Rush）對瓊妮米契爾尤其特別欣賞，說服了茱蒂柯林斯（Judy Collins）灌錄了一首她的作品，可惜不太成功。接著，湯姆魯許乾脆自己來，甚至把「Circle Game」當作專輯的標題，也讓先前還對她有所懷疑的茱蒂柯林斯改變觀感，唱紅了她所譜寫的「Both Sides Now」。1967年，瓊妮與丈夫離婚，遷居紐約，曾經打算改行當時裝設計師，不過，為了生活，她還是前往民歌餐廳賣唱，逐漸引起了注意，也得到錄製唱片的機會，從1968年開始推出個人專輯，到了1970年的「Ladies of the Canyon」，更獲得了高度的評價，成為白金專輯，也就此成名，成了70年代美國民歌史上最重要的創作歌手之一，許多知名的大牌藝人與團體都曾經陸續因為翻唱她的作品而獲得成功。目前，已經將近六十歲的瓊妮米契爾，仍然持續的演唱，甚至繼續嘗試拓展新的風格。或許，這正如她在「Circle Game」裡面所說的，在那輪迴的最後一年轉完之前，她還會有更新、更多、甚至更好的夢想出現吧？
